We returned yesterday from a fabulous trip back to N.C. where joe officiated a wedding and we reunited with dear friends. It was one exhausting week, but refreshing to be with people who have known us longer than 9 months. In this transition and move i have frequently used the analogy of ou
r lives being like a dog park... a lot of fun, but also a lot of sniffing and figuring out who you do/do not want to play with...and this trip was great in the sense that we were with friends where we had already gotten over the sniffing part and it was all play.

A favorite memory was an evening at the "Hillbilly Hideaway" in Walnut Cove, NC. It was some amazing down home southern cookin' (and pretty cheap too!), some bluegrass music after dinner, and gabe came away from the evening saying "come along now, ya'all".

gabe had a style all his own on the dance floor. Picture an all body shake/vibrate rather than actual dance moves, more than anything he loved knowing that people were watching him.
It rained many afternoons, but we were able to make it to the pool several times. Both gabe and makena were jumping in the pool with a lot of assistance and encouraging from us... definitely need to work on our pool skills, but it was still a lot of fun.
Makena must have worked up quite an appetite at the pool because she had no problem scavenging off of others plates.
As I said, the trip was fun but wore all of us out. I don't think we realized how tired we were until we finally crawled into bed last night. Some nights when gabe doesn't want to go to bed we will find him "hiding" in the hallway where we usher him back to bed. As you can see, he was so tired he made it to the hallway, but didn't have enough stamina left and fell asleep in the middle of the floor.
