Mother's Day 2007

I always knew that a mother's day tradition was dad's and kids making a mess of the kitchen, fumbling through preparation of breakfast and proudly serving mom breakfast in bed. I guess I never put much thought as to why mom would want breakfast in bed. The answer became perfectly clear this morning after joe and gabe prepared a delicious (it really was) breakfast of cinnamon french toast, bacon, warm buttered cinnamon syrup, and coffee and happily delivered it to me in bed. I eagerly invited gabe and makena to share breakfast with me and quickly realized the error of my ways. Breakfast in bed is to give the mom a rare and treasured quiet morning to herself, to enjoy her breakfast without sharing, and without a worry or sight of the dishes or disaster of her kitchen - all of which were wiped away with my naive invitation for all to partake of my plate. Even so, it was still a memorable morning (joe jokingly informed me that mothers day ends at noon) and just emphasized that I LOVE being a mom and wouldn't trade it for anything.
